Standard XML

While roaming through a google-search on semacode I found something else of interest which is a nice short post – detailing a senario using XML (With Mobile-Phones), .. – and how it might work, .. and does not work, due to manufacuturers short sightedness.

Wiki-Definition of XML: XML (Extensible Markup Language) is a set of rules for encoding documents electronically. It is defined in the XML 1.0 – Specification produced by the W3C and several other related specifications; all are fee-free open standards.

XML – Sounds simple enough – just that the working example at knowprose.com (above) – provides a GOOD example of what happens, when large companies see a way to lock you into their brand) – and no longer are you using the open standard xml. (IF that makes any sense)

As consumers – we are expected to know and understand the underlying technologies? – Bit hard for the average user who is NOT into mobile-devices, .. (Or web development) and so with limited knowledge and experience, the end user buys a product that locks them into a proprietary ‘way of doing things’.

On this same blog – another example of the same theme -  Amazon Emulates The Kindle For Microsoft Users – The Kindle Wireless Reading Device requires special hardware to run, .. Therefore, any electronic-books purchased, can only be read on ‘A Kindle’.  The Post/Link above points to a solution provided by amazon – Ad – Read Kindle Books on Your Computer

  1. Happiness is not about being immortal nor having food or rights inone’s hand. It’s about having each tiny wish come true, or havingsomething to eat when you are hungry or having someone’s love when youneed love.  (Quote)
